Blandford Forum Estate Day
23 July 2009
On 23rd July, Signpost, in partnership with Town
Councillors, the Mayor of Blandford Forum, and representatives of
Dorset Police’s Blandford Forum Safer Neighbourhoods Team held an
estate day. The venue for this estate day covered a significant
area of Blandford Forum, including Barnes Close, Elizabeth Road,
Hunt Road and other adjoining roads.
The day, open to all Signpost residents and
private residents, was a marked success with approximate 40
residents coming forward to give feedback on their views of the
estate. Several major concerns were raised including untaxed
vehicles on the estate, untidy gardens, and concerns for children
who play football on the roads on the estate.
In the evening a surgery was held at the
Larksmead Pavilion involving all of the partners. This surgery was
to allow those people who work during the day an opportunity to
express their views and raise any issues. Again a number of people
took this chance to raise issues direct to their Councillor or to
Signpost.
Alan Winter, Housing Officer for the estate
said “The estate day was a great opportunity for residents to
raises issues directly to the people who can resolve them, and as a
result we were able to take immediate action to address a number of
the issues raised on the day. We hope to make this a regular
event.”
