Raising
Awareness of Options for Older
People
10 May 2010
Signpost Care Partnerships, part of
Spectrum Housing Group, together with several local agencies,
hosted a series of events at independent living schemes across
North Dorset to raise awareness of some of the options available to
older people.
The events coincided with a regional (south
west) campaign organised by the National Housing Federation to
raise awareness of supported housing.
The events were hosted at Rawson Court in
Gillingham, Friars Moor Court in Sturminster Newton and Bryanston
Court in Blandford in the form of ‘open afternoon drop-in’ sessions
with refreshments.
Wendy Rooke, Liaison Officer at Signpost Care
Partnerships said,” We wanted the events to include a whole variety
of information and we were really pleased that agencies such as the
Safer Neighbourhood team, the fire service, a member of the
Supporting People team, local representatives from the Project for
Older Peoples’ Partnerships (POPPs), a volunteer from the car link
scheme and reps from Oakhouse Foods (who offer frozen food
deliveries) and from Agincare (who provide care services) were able
to attend.”
As well as information on Signpost’s supported
housing schemes, there was also an information stand about the
floating support service that Signpost provides in the
community.
The main benefits of the events were:
- Raising awareness of potential customers to the support
services available
- Making our current customers aware of other support
providers
- Providing a social event for residents
- Networking opportunities for the providers.
- Increasing the profile of the organisation within the
community.
Wendy added, “I would like to thank everyone
who took part without their support events like this would not be
possible”.
