New Homes for Local People in
Exeter
26 January 2010
FOURTEEN
new homes for local people have been officially opened by The
Leader of the Council, Councillor Adrian Fullam at Haven Road in
Exeter.
The development, provided by Signpost Housing
Association, a subsidiary of Spectrum Housing Group, is called
Terracina Court and provides a mix of 14 one and two bedroom
apartments built in a contemporary style to compliment the
surrounding area. Priority for the homes has been given to local
people registered with Exeter City Council. The scheme also
includes a commercial unit bringing local employment opportunities
to the area.
Bethan Vincent, who bid for one of the
apartments through Exeter Home Choice, has lived in temporary
accommodation with her 2-year old son for the past couple of years.
She said,” It’s brilliant to finally have a permanent home. I
can’t wait to move in.”
Wayne Morris, Group Chief Executive of
Spectrum Housing Group said,” Terracina Court is a fantastic
example where partnership working between the local Council,
ourselves, the contractor, consultants and the Homes and
Communities Agency has delivered affordable housing for those in
need. I would like to say a particular thank you to Russell
Construction who has done a really outstanding job despite a few
challenges along the way.”
The scheme has cost approximately £2.3million
to develop – the Homes and Communities Agency provided over
£500,000 in grant funding and the local authority provided £200,000
the remainder was financed through the Association’s private
funders, home ownership sales and through the lease of the
commercial unit to Sutton Harbour Projects Number One Ltd.
Cllr Adrian Fullam added, “Terracina Court has
been excellently designed and is a major contribution to the
regeneration of Exeter’s canal basin. We currently have around
5,000 people on our housing register, 1,300 of those are in urgent
housing need. Terracina Court has made a real contribution to
providing more homes in the City. It is only with partnership
working though that we can achieve projects like this.”
