Homes for older people - Independent Living
What is Independent Living?
Independent Living offers people over the
age of 55 years, or those with disabilities, the support to live
independently.
The level of support
provided and how it is delivered can vary depending on the
individual’s needs. We have our own Liaison Officers in addition to
an emergency alarm monitoring service provided by Sovereign Care
Centre, which enables us to provide a twenty-four hour a day
response service.
The normal working hours
of the Liaison Officers are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Outside of these hours the service is monitored by Sovereign Care
Centre who will contact the appropriate service or friend/family
member in an emergency situation on behalf of the client.
Signpost Housing
Association owns in the region of six hundred Independent Living
properties across North Dorset and one development in East Dorset.
The accommodation itself varies from studio flats to one and two
bedroom flats and bungalows and includes some self-contained units.
Some schemes have communal facilities such as guestroom
accommodation where friends and family can stay (there is a small
charge for this), a laundry room, communal kitchen and lounge where
residents can meet up and have a cup of tea or coffee, be involved
in social events or attend residents’ meetings and information
meetings held by the Liaison Officers and other service and support
providers.
