| Gardening
is set to grow from strength to strength for Signpost Housing
Association Tenants' this summer.
Tenants were recently invited to attend a meeting at Signpost
House to plan their own Year 2000 Best Garden Competition.
David Moreland, Best Value / Tenant Participation Manager
says, "Signpost has held an annual garden competition
for its tenants for the past 5 years. This year we thought
we would take a different approach to organising the event
that has grown in popularity over the last few years and invite
tenants to plan their own competition. Signpost is constantly
looking at ways to involve tenants in decisions that directly
affect them and this is just one example where it has worked
well."
The tenants decided to have 10 categories in this year's
competition plus best overall large and small garden. The
event also reflects the expanding nature of Signpost as area
winners will be based on local authority boundaries.
The categories are as follows:
Best Garden for the Disabled
Best Patio Garden
Best Vegetable Garden
Best Designed
Best Garden designed by children (under 16 years)
Best Communal Garden
Best Vegetable allotment
Best Water Feature
Best Container / Hanging baskets
Best Floral Content
Prizes will be National Garden Vouchers - £50 first
prize, £30 second prize and £15 third prize in
each of the categories. Winners of the best overall large
and small garden will each receive £100. Thanks go to
the competition sponsors: Keith Banyards, E C Electricals,
Tudor Treatments, Anglian Building products, and Gendex Insulation
Services.
Judging is scheduled to take place on the 3rd of August 2000.
