What is Sheltered Housing

Sheltered Housing offers people over the age of 55 years or those with disabilities independent living with support. The level of support and how it is delivered can vary depending on the needs of the client. We have our own Support Officer's in addition to a monitoring cover provided by Sovereign Control Centre, which enables us to provide a twenty-four hour a day response service. The Support Officer's normal working hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Outside of the officers duty hours the service is monitored by the control centre who will contact the appropriate emergency service or friend/family member in an emergency on behalf of the client.

For more information about the purpose of Sheltered Housing please refer to our Aims and Objectives page.

Signpost Housing Association owns in the region of six hundred Sheltered Housing properties across North Dorset and one in East Dorset. The accommodation itself varies from bedsits to 1 & 2 bedroom flats and bungalows and is self-contained. Most schemes have communal facilities such as Guestrooms where friends and family can stay (there is a small charge for this use) a Laundry Room, Communal Kitchen and Lounge where tenant's can meet up and have a cup of tea or coffee, be involved in social events or attend tenant's meetings and information meetings held by the Support Liaison Officers and other service providers.
